I will see you at the end of the day

Monkey is headed back to school now that we are living back in Maryland.  Both of my babies are going to school this year.  I am having a hard time with it.  It was such a blessing to be home and have them home last year.  But just because I loved doing it does not mean it was what is best for them or for our family.  This new school is wonderful and they know us there since my brother teaches there and my nieces also attend.  Monkey was so excited for today!

Super special lunch for the very first day of school.  Hard boiled eggs, fish shaped pretzels, pickles, green peppers, a special sweet and salty granola bar (one of Gram's) and a surprise of gummy worms. Plus water and some notes so he can be reminded that we love him. Most of the time we will be getting free or reduced lunch so he will be eating the hot lunch provided but as a treat we get to pack sometimes.

All set! He was so excited we sat outside for 20 minutes before we could leave for school.

The school has a theme for the year, Mission Possible! So we celebrated the theme and welcomed the goals of knowing we can complete the mission of 1st grade!

1st Grade! I just can't believe it!

I will be driving him into school everyday and he will be riding the bus home with his cousins and little sister. But just for this first week I get to walk him into his classroom.

He did not want to wait for me.

Bus and name tag Mommy made on his new cool backpack that Mommy was "not allowed to mess with" meaning he is already to old for me to decorate his backpack for him.

Running away from Mommy, I horded him for 6 years, now I have to let go. I just don't want to.

His hallway, the yellow house.

New classroom with an awesome beach theme since his teacher loves spending time at the beach she brought a little bit to her classroom for her students

Johnny's 1st grade teacher, Ms. Barnaba, she also taught Ella her kindergarten year!

New classroom.  He just walked right in and away from me without a second thought.  He is so ready to learn and make new friends.

His seat! I was so grateful to see he was on the edge and near the front.  Not being in the middle of the classroom and being near the front helps to eliminate distractions that would keep his ADHD mind from focusing and learning. During this first month of school we will have a IEP meeting and get his plan in action.

Walking down the hallway to his new classroom Monkey and I have this conversation.

"Mommy are you going to miss me?"
"Yes baby"
"Is that why you are crying?"
"Yes baby"
"But Mommy you will see me at the end of the day"

My big boy comforting me and ready to face the world.  I guess I have done something right here.
